Bright Futures Student Handbook – Initial Eligibility
Bright Futures Student Handbook – What You Need to Know
Everyone has heard of Bright Futures, but what does it actually do? Well, there are two different scholarships that come with Bright Futures, and we’ll be going over both of them.
The Florida Medallion Scholar award will cover 75% of your tuition in any Florida public institution (e.g. USF, FSU, UF, UCF, etc.) The requirements are as follows:
- 3.0 GPA across your core academic classes (electives don’t count.)
- You’ll need to score 1210 on the SAT or 25 on the ACT.
- You’ll need to complete 75 hours of community service or paid work.
The Florida Academic Scholar award will cover 100% of your tuition instead of 75%, but the requirements are steeper.
- 3.5 GPA across your core academic classes.
- You’ll need to score 1340 on the SAT or 29 on the ACT.
- You’ll need to complete 100 hours of community service or paid work.
It’s important to note that Bright Futures does not cover 100% or 75% of your cost for college. It only covers tuition, not textbooks, housing, or other expenses. Additionally, you must claim your Bright Futures by going to their website and applying by August 31 of your graduation year (for example, if you graduated CO 2026, you must submit the application by August 31, 2026.
